Otero County Seeks Next County Administrator

Otero County is seeking a strategic, community-minded leader to serve as our next County Administrator. This position is the top appointed executive role in the county and works under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners to oversee daily operations, guide long-range planning, and support our mission of delivering high-quality public service.

About the Role:

The County Administrator provides leadership for administrative functions. The role also involves:

  • Managing the county’s annual budget and capital improvement planning
  • Supporting department heads and elected officials
  • Overseeing grant-funded projects and major infrastructure efforts
  • Representing the county in intergovernmental forums
  • Developing policies and practices that improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery

This is a dynamic leadership role that requires strong communication skills, independent judgment, and a deep understanding of rural governance and community engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or related field preferred
  • Proven experience in local government or public sector leadership
  • Expertise in budgeting, strategic planning, and interagency collaboration
  • Strong people skills and a track record of leading teams effectively

Location: La Junta, Colorado
Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 plus car allowance
