Record requests include, but are not limited to, background checks, criminal or traffic reports, and booking photos. All requests for records must be submitted on an incident report request form, filled out completely, and acknowledge the pecuniary gain statement by signing the request form per Colorado Revised Statute 24-72-305.5.

Pecuniary Gain Statement:

According to the Colorado Revised Statute 24-72-305.5, records of official action, criminal justice records, or the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and other information in such records shall not be used by any person to solicit business for pecuniary gain. The Official Records Custodian shall deny any person access to records of official action and criminal justice records unless such person signs a statement that affirms that such record shall not be used for the direct solicitation of business for pecuniary gain.

Fees:

There is a $7.50 fee that covers the search and retrieval of the records and the first 10 pages. An additional fee of $0.25 will be charged for each additional page thereafter. Costs for reproduction have been approved under Colorado Revised Statute 24-72-306. Please click on the Records Request Form link above that opens the form and includes additional fee information.

Civil Process

The Civil Process Division is responsible for preparing your documents for deputies to serve. Our agency serves criminal and civil paperwork for law offices, district attorneys, individuals, etc.

The Civil Process Division cannot give you legal advice. We recommend you contact a licensed attorney if you need assistance with filling out your court documents.

Once you are ready to have your papers served, you can complete the following information to assist us with locating your party.

Bring or mail your documents, the Civil Process Information sheet, and the correct fee amount to:

Otero County Sheriff's Office

222 E 2nd Street

La Junta, CO 81050

Once your service has been completed, either by service or non-service, you will receive a completed Return of Service for your records. In MOST cases, it is up to you and/or your organization to return a copy of this to the courts. If you owe a balance, you will be invoiced the amount, please note that we will not attempt any service without payment. In addition, any individuals or entities who have outstanding balances will need to pay those off and pay any future services in full before service.

Conceal Carry Permits

#FFFFFF

The Otero County Sheriff's Office is pleased to provide you with the following information to assist you with the Concealed Handgun Permit application process. Provided are the application, handbook, procedures, and guidelines for the program, which were taken from Colorado Revised Statute 18-12-206.

To apply for a concealed handgun permit, complete the application (PDF is below) and attach appropriate documentation and funds. Upon completion, please call 719-384-5941 for our hours of operation. Your initial appointment will take approximately 30 minutes (this is an estimate as agencies bringing in arrestees can alter this time). At the time you come in, your application will be processed, your photo will be taken, and you will be fingerprinted. Please note that the Sheriff's Office does not determine the time frame in which you will be approved. When all paperwork is completed in person, letters are sent to previous jurisdictions where you have resided, your prints are sent to CBI/FBI, and once everything is received with approval, your new Conceal and Carry card will be created.

For your convenience, a copy of the Concealed Handgun Permit Information Packet PDF will open in another window.
